Electrical Emergencies

Emergency Electrician Cairns

When something goes seriously wrong with the electrical at home or at work, you can’t sit on it until business hours. Burning smell from a powerpoint, lights gone out across the whole house, sparks coming off a switch, or a switchboard that just won’t reset after a storm. Easy Cool Air & Electrical runs a proper 24/7 emergency electrical service across Cairns and the wider Far North Queensland region, with licensed sparkies on call to respond fast and make the situation safe.

Emergency callouts get handled the same way we handle every job: a real person answers the phone, a licensed electrician is dispatched without delay, the fault gets diagnosed properly, and the repair is done to standard. No cowboys, no shortcuts, no band-aid fixes that fail again next week.

What we cover

Emergency Electrical Callouts We Handle

From total power loss to burnt switchboards and storm damage, our after-hours team responds to the lot across Cairns homes and businesses.

Power Loss & Outages

Half the house gone dark? Whole property dead? We trace the fault back to the source, whether it's a tripped circuit, a faulty appliance pulling the system down, damaged cabling, or a supply-side issue that needs Ergon called in.

Sparking Outlets & Hot Switches

A spark from a powerpoint or a switch that's warm to touch is a serious red flag for a failing connection or worn wiring behind the wall. Turn the circuit off at the switchboard if you can safely, then ring us for proper diagnostic work.

Burning Smells & Smoke

An acrid plastic smell drifting out of a powerpoint, switch or light fitting is usually overheating wiring behind the wall. It's a genuine fire risk and gets prioritised the same day, day or night.

Tripping Safety Switches

Safety switch (RCD) tripping and refusing to reset is a sign there's an actual fault on the circuit. We isolate the affected line, find the source of the leak, and get the system safely back online.

Storm & Lightning Damage

After a Cairns storm or cyclone, lightning strikes and power surges can fry switchboards, damage circuits and knock out connected appliances. We respond fast to storm callouts, prioritising safety risks and getting essential power back up.

Switchboard Faults

A burnt, smoking or visibly damaged switchboard is not something to ignore. We attend, isolate, make safe and replace components on the spot, including a full switchboard upgrade if the existing board is past the point of repair.

Why Cairns Locals Choose Easy Cool Electrical

When an electrical emergency hits, what you actually want is someone who answers the phone, gives you an honest ETA, and turns up properly equipped to fix the problem. That’s the whole approach here. Family-run, locally based out of Earlville, fully licensed, and operating in Cairns long enough to know which suburbs storm hardest and which homes have the dodgy older wiring.

We don’t subcontract emergency work out to third parties. The sparky who answers the call is the same one who arrives at your door. Quotes are fair, parts are genuine, and every repair is left compliant, safety-tested and warranted. After-hours pricing is explained upfront on the phone before we dispatch, so the figure on the invoice is the figure you agreed to.

Cairns Emergency Electrical FAQs

How quickly can you get to my place for an emergency?

Response times depend on traffic, weather and where the team’s coming from, but for genuine Cairns emergencies we aim to be on site within the hour. During major storm events or cyclones the call volume spikes hard, so timing can stretch out. Either way, you’ll get an honest ETA on the phone before we dispatch.

Anything that poses an immediate safety risk or knocks out essential power: burning smells from electrical fittings, sparking outlets or switches, smoke, total power loss, a burnt or failed switchboard, water damage to electrical, or any electric shock from a fitting. Loss of power to part of the house also qualifies if it’s affecting the fridge, hot water, medical equipment or security systems.

After-hours, weekend and public holiday emergency callouts attract a higher rate than standard daytime appointments. We give you a clear callout figure on the phone before dispatching, and once on site, the actual repair work is quoted before we get started. No surprise totals on the invoice.

Yes, storm and cyclone damage repairs are a major part of emergency electrical work in Cairns. Lightning strikes, power surges, water damage to switchboards, and fried appliances all fall under our after-hours response. During serious weather events we prioritise jobs based on safety risk and respond as fast as conditions on the road allow.

First check is whether your neighbours have power. If the whole street’s dark, it’s an Ergon supply issue, and you can report it directly to Ergon on 13 16 70. If it’s just your property, take a look at your switchboard for tripped breakers or RCDs. If the board looks fine but you’ve still got no power, that’s when to ring us.
A safety switch (RCD) that’s tripped once can usually be flicked back to the on position. If it trips again straight away, that’s a sign of a genuine fault somewhere on the circuit. Don’t keep resetting it. Unplug appliances on the affected circuit one at a time to find the culprit. If it keeps tripping with everything unplugged, the fault’s in the wiring and a licensed electrician needs to take a look.

We cover the full Cairns Regional Council area for emergency electrical work, from Palm Cove down through to Gordonvale, plus all the suburbs in between. If you’re outside the standard service zone, give us a ring and we’ll let you know whether travel time changes the callout figure before dispatching.
